Christine Newsome is a mixed-media collage artist who lives in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
She is a retired art teacher with a Master's degree in art education.
Christine was born in England and by the time she was nine she had visited thirteen different countries with her family. This wonderful vagabond childhood, visiting different cultures, strongly informs her work today. Working mostly with acrylics as a background, Christine creates collages by layering decorative papers, fabric, metal findings, powdered pastel and coloured pencil. The images she uses are often cultural, historic and anthropological in nature.
Christine is often asked why her preferred medium is mixed-media collage. The answer is simple...it is absolutely exhilarating to begin work with absolutely no idea what the finished product will be. Colour, texture and composition are the main building blocks, and these are laid layer upon layer. it is a challenge and Christine believes that this process is creativity in it's purest form.
"Art is not a contrived execution, it's a series of intuitive, layered gambles."
Nick Bantock.
Christine is a member of the Canadian Federation of Artists.
